We have a well-established reputation for making video-films, which began with an association with Chatsworth House, a stately home to the north of us in our county, Derbyshire. Students were invited to be inspired by the house, grounds and artwork - a passion of the current Duke - and the results are viewable on our website and on this site shortly. One Sixth Form student - Matt Cox - was also invited to paint the Duke of Devonshire's portrait and he was so impressed by the result that he bought one of the two versions.
Our student film crew also made a film about Chatworth which is available from their website. Since then we have received a number of commissions, the latest being for Derbyshire Constabulary who wanted a dvd package on the issues surrounding mobile phone theft. The final result - 'Choices' - was planned, acted and made entirely by students from the College with the support of professional film-maker, Fi Burke.
The entire package - which also contains notes for teachers and other end-users - will shortly be made available across the County. Anyone outside the Derbyshire area who would like to use it should contact the College.
The film was joint winner of the annual Derbyshire Crimebeat award and is the County representative in the national Crimebeat competition. Our Derbyshire Award will be made to us by Lord Ralph Kerr of Melbourne Hall on July 3, during Shine Week.
