Case studies - Monty Irving

Monty Irving

Monty Irving is a 5 year old golf fanatic from Leigh on Sea. He has been playing for two years and wants to be a professional golf player when he grows up.

Hi Monty, how long have you been playing golf?
I’ve been playing golf since I was 3 years old.

What is it about the game you like so much?
I love it best when I get the balls in the holes. That’s a great feeling.

How often do you have to practice?
I practice every Saturday and sometimes during the week too. I love playing so I don’t mind how much I practice.

What’s the hardest thing about playing golf?
When I swing the club around my neck, it’s difficult because I have to be in the right position and I find this hard sometimes.

Do you like any other sort of sports?
I really like rugby, basketball, football and tennis.

What would you like to be when you grow up?
A professional golfer.

What’s your favourite subject at school?
Reading – I really love reading.

If other children wanted to play golf what would you say to them? Any advice?
I would say work hard on the swing because it’s all in the swing and getting it right is hard.

Have you got any heroes? Who are they?
Tiger Woods because he was very young like me when he started and went on to become a champion.

How do you hope to be spending your summer holidays?
I will be going camping, playing golf and swimming.
